What is Impulse Radio?
Who We Are
Impulse Radio is the leading provider of broadcaster and receiver side
technology designed to capitalize on IBOC digital radio and other related
technologies. We were founded in 1999 and are headquartered in New York
City.
What We Do
In order for broadcasters, receiver manufacturers, and consumers to
benefit from the advent of terrestrial digital radio, the industry requires
not only IBOC transmission and reception technology, but also a software-operating
platform from which to launch and manage new data services.
Impulse Radio provides that software-operating platform
for both broadcasters and electronics manufacturers.
Broadcasters
The Impulse Radio Datacast Server is a product licensed to broadcasters, allowing
them to improve listenership and listener retention, generate incremental
revenue through the sale of new digital advertising, and license portions
of their spectrum for new subsidiary data services.
Electronics Manufacturers
The Impulse Radio Device Platform is a product licensed to electronics
manufacturers, which interfaces with and enables the data services associated
with IBOC digital radio. In order to realize the benefits of digital
radio, consumers must purchase new IBOC-enabled receivers. Technology
such as Impulse Radio’s Device Platform will be required in order
for these new receivers to render content and other data.
Driving Standardization
Impulse Radio and iBiquity Digital are working together to standardize
interface protocols for digital radio data broadcasts and to create
an environment in which broadcasters, receiver manufacturers, and applications
developers can work together to maximize the effectiveness of the IBOC
data pipe.
Throughout the development process, Impulse Radio will enlist the feedback
of electronics manufacturers, radio broadcasters, and application providers,
helping to create a more encompassing and flexible data standard.
