Digital Radio means more than better sound quality
In-Band On-Channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcasting will fundamentally change radio as a medium. IBOC’s benefits far exceed its ability to increase the sound quality of radio broadcasts to near CD quality wherever consumers are tuning in. Radio’s role as an audio medium will transform it into a means for broadcasters to use their existing AM /FM frequencies for cost-efficient data transmission. In the first generation of IBOC, this will include transmitting visual content such as song title, artist information, news, sports, and weather using Impulse Radio’s Datacast Server and Device Platform technologies.
